Get Vista, Office Ultimate for free

Office 2007 UltimateStill waiting for the right time to upgrade your PC from Windows XP or Office 2003 the the latest Ultimate versions?

Now may be that time as Microsoft is offering the upgraded software for free. The catch? You must take part in the Windows Feedback Program.

Besides taking the occasional survey, Microsoft will ask you to install a small program that records your everyday use so that the company may use it to improve future versions of the products.

Whoops, Wrong Blog. Oh, Wait…

No, you’ve come to the right place. The blog is undergoing a lot of changes.

Aside from the very obvious design change, the majority of changes are under the hood — things readers won’t see, but are large improvements for me, the blog writer.

Problems I was experiencing with Internet Explorer not being able to see embedded videos from YouTube or Google Video prompted me to look into new turnkey blog software.

On my home computer, which runs Vista and the latest versions of Internet Explorer 7 and Norton Internet Security, the embedded blog videos were not displaying properly when I viewed the blog in Internet Explorer.

Internet Explorer Hates My Blog

PoopIEMicrosoft’s Internet Explorer seems to be back to its old ways.

As I originally discussed in this postback in April, IE has some problems showing the videos I embed into posts. Instead of showing the video box with the play button ready to go, it will show only a big blank white space with a text link to YouTube or Google, where the video is stored.

The videos appear to work fine on a machine running Windows XP and IE 7, but when I test them on my home machine, which uses Vista, the video problem occurs.

Validating Vista

Windows VistaAfter waiting a month and a half for Dell to feel comfortable enough to ship Vista to its users as part of the Windows Vista Express Upgrade program, I finally received my copy in the mail yesterday — and three hours later received an e-mail from Dell saying it had shipped.

I purchased myself a new computer for Christmas from Dell and part of the deal was a free copy of Vista when it launched.

I installed it last night. It took 5 hours and I still have a few tweaks and minor installs to make, but overall I have to say I’m satisfied.

Headaches are expected with every operating system upgrade — at least for us PC users — and there were a few with this transition.
