I’ve been tapped to cook the Thanksgiving turkey this year. OK, I may have just TAKEN the responsibility but whatevs.
I have this yearning to deep fry a turkey. I heard deep-friend turkeys are awesome and I also heard there’s a risk of fire — talk about win-win!
After a little research, it appears the only turnkey fryer worth a damn costs $156. That’s a bit much when I could just bake the turkey for free. I’ll put the fryer on my wish list.

Tiffany and I decided to invite our families over for Thanksgiving this year and I’ve taken on the task of the turkey. Since we don’t yet have a turkey fryer (danger = fun), I’m going to cook the bird the old fashioned way. Problem is, I don’t have an old-fashioned way. I’ve never cooked a turkey before.
I’ve found a couple recipes on allrecipes.com (here and here) one of which I may use. Unless somebody has a better suggestion.
After a slow blog week caused by the Thanksgiving holiday, Monday morning begins my two weeks of jury duty.
Unfortunately, the Web site updates will probably continue to be sporadic over the next 14 days until my schedule gets back to normal.
As I reported in an earlier post, I have been summoned for Jury Duty.
My boss wrote a letter to try and get me out of it. We faxed it in 3 days ago.
Today during lunch I received their response.
“Your request to be excused HAS BEEN DENIED and your service date has been rescheduled to the date noted above.”
The capital letters in “has been denied” is pulled straight from the letter, by the way.
Instead of getting it out of the way and starting on Sept. 24, now I have to start my two weeks on Nov. 26. That’s the Monday right after Thanksgiving weekend for those of you that aren’t calendar savvy.
So now I have to serve between the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday.
Bloody Hell.
