‘Catastrophic power failure’ hits my ISP

My site was down all last night. I called my new ISP, HostMonster, and they said it was from a lightening strike. Here’s their official word from an e-mail this morning:

Due to a catastrophic power failure, some HostMonster servers are currently without power. Sprkus.com is currently hosted on one of these servers. Rocky Mountain Power is working to replace hardware as quickly as possible. The current ETA from Rocky Mountain Power is 7:30pm MST. This outage is affecting most of Orem, Utah making it a top priority.

The outage occurred approximately 5pm MST. We were able to prevent data loss as the server you are on was safely shut down under backup power. We apologize for any inconvenience and will have your service restored as quickly as possible.

This site appears to be back up already. Here’s hoping it stays that way.

After re-installing a fresh copy of WordPress and switching down to the simpler default theme yesterday, the site didn’t run any faster. So I started to believe that the fault was in my Web host, Network Solutions.

Turns out I was right.
