The Rocky Road to Dublin

Tiffany and I met with our Realtor on Friday and have officially began our house hunting. Being forced to buy a house before we get married, the process began with a planning meeting.

We had Upper Arlington in mind but after comparison shopping, the new leading location candidate is Dublin. You just get more bang for your buck.

When our budget is applied to a potential house in Dublin, we get this:

Not bad. Four beedrooms, 2,200 square feet, hot tub.

Now, let’s apply that same budget to a house in Upper Arlington:

Oh. That looks … smaller. Three bedrooms, two full baths but only 1,500 square feet.

The tradeoff, of course, is that Dublin is a bit further out of the city. If you go 15 additional minutes out of town past Dublin, houses will be even cheaper — that’s no secret.

Tiffany and I cruised the houses in Dublin and generally liked what we saw. Plus I always was a little partial to Dublin because of my Irish background, even though Dublin is just a name. They have a festival, so that’s pretty legit.

Of course, it’s still WAY early. We gotta go get pre-approved by the bank over the next couple weeks.

By then, we might find something small we like in Bexley.

  1. The home you found in Upper Arlington would go for about a clean half mill in Beverly Hills about nine years ago.
