My first poker tournament showing was weak

Card Sharks

The fact that a was able to attend the poker tournament Friday night for the first time in three meetings was a victory itself. It overshadows my 10th-place finish.

OK, maybe not.

I missed the first two games because of events with Tiffany’s family. The two players that subbed for me finished 8th and 12th, so a 10th place finish by me means I ended up right on average.

I was knocked out when my opponent (Mr. P on the left in the photo) caught a third Jack on the turn with a pair of them in his hand. I was holding an Ace with one in the flop and no other face cards showing. He knew I had it, but I was already pot committed.

It was a blast just playing. It’s a 16-player, 10-game tournament organized by Taco, who’s the one on the right in the photo above. He’s even got a Web site for the tournament. It’s only a $30 buy in, so it’s all about fun for me. If you win the whole thing you get over $800 at the end of the year, however. Unfortunately, I think I’m already rebuilding for next season.

Sorry about the bad quality of the photo, by the way. I’m not used to taking pics with my new phone yet.
