Ring update: Diamond is older than thought

Blood Diamond

Tiffany and I learned Saturday while visiting Grandma J that the diamond grandma gave me to propose with is older than I originally thought.

Until then, I believed my grandfather Roy bought it and used it to propose to my grandmother and then she handed it down for me to use. It turns out the diamond was first purchased by grandpa’s father (my great grandfather) who used it to propose to his mother.

Further, according to my Grandma J, my great grandmother was in her 50s when she gave birth to Roy, my grandfather. A rough calculation puts the diamond’s original appearance into my family around 1905 with the potential of being in the late 1890s, which would mean the diamond has spanned two centuries.

Grandma J referred to the diamond as an heirloom a few times, but I thought she was saying the ring would be an heirloom to me. Turns out it was an heirloom to her.
