A 31-year-old woman from Australia faces child abduction charges for her romantic involvement with a 17-year-old boy she met online while playing World of Warcraft.
Tamara Broome was arrested on June 26, 2007, at a train station in North Carolina. Broome flew from Adelaide, Australia, to Greenville to allegedly pick up the boy and take him down under.
Besides playing Warcraft during a relationship that lasted over a year, the two e-mailed and discussed marriage.
Relatives of the woman claim the boy’s parents set her up, going as far as paying for the woman’s flight in order to frame her.
