The walk of shame

Team Pattie T-ShirtIt turns out that public humiliation is only bad when you have enough energy to care.

Tiffany and I got together with members of Tiffany’s family to participate in the National Kidney Foundation’s Walk & Run Saturday morning at Polaris Fashion Place. We participated to honor the memory of Tiffany’s aunt Pattie, who passed away two years ago.

Tiffany, her mom and her aunt Becky decided to make T-Shirts for the event because, well, arts and crafts equal a fun Friday night for them. The guys of the group, Tiffany’s step dad Jeff, uncle Mark, uncle Jim, cousin Matt and brother Grant all bit the bullet and made their own shirts as well — each spending roughly 8 minutes writing “Team Pattie” in manly, thick block letters. Mark, to be exact, shortened “Team Pattie” to simply “TP” and the date.

I wiggled out of the chore just enough to convince Tiffany to make mine for me.

Big mistake:

Fortunately for me, being forced out of bed at 7:45 a.m. on a Saturday morning with only five and a half hours of sleep zapped all energy I may have normally spent on embarrassment.

On the up and up, however, it was nice to see what the world looks like that early in the morning to somebody that’s not on his or her way to work. And spending time with Tiffany’s family is always worthwhile.
