Dane Cook trying music crossover?

Dane CookAfter listening to the MP3, I realize how this could have slipped under the radar, but did anyone noticed Dane Cook released a serious Rock song in May?

I was using Rhapsody to listen to music at work because I have a free three month subscription and I noticed Dane Cook was on Rhapsody’s top-ten chart. I clicked on his name to see if he had a new comedy CD out — he does. It’s titled “Rough Around the Edges: Live from Madison Square Garden.” More amusing though was that Rhapsody listed two music singles also out.

The first singe was titled “I’ll Never Be You” and is meant to be funny. A lot of comics write songs, it’s nothing new. Denis Leary had “Asshole,” Adam Sandler had the now timely “Thanksgiving Song,” and songs by Flight of the Conchords led to a 30-minute half hour comedy show on HBO for Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie.

The second song however, was an actual serious rock song. Or it’s supposed to be. It’s called “Forward.” I can’t help but think of his “I did my best” routine when I hear it though. I hope it’s the last serious song he makes because it seems like comedy career suicide to me. I like Dane Cook’s stand up a lot. I’m a fan. He’s humorous and entertaining on stage when he’s telling jokes. But “Forward” sucks.

And if he keeps that crap up, his millions of fans will actually mean it when they give him the “super finger.”

Here’s a short clip of the song:
