Halloween in the suburbs

[singlepic=531,160,120,right]In the continuation of domestication, Tiffany and I broke out the pumpkins and the carving tools last night for a little good old-fashioned healthy Halloween fun.

Healthier than last year, anyway.

While I missed last year’s Dawn of the Keg, it was also nice being lazy. Not having to think of a costume. Not having to decorate and throw a party. Nobody else threw a party, either. At least none to which we were invited.

Tiffany wanted to try and mix it up this year and carve jack-o-lanterns that weren’t your typical face designs — cause she’s crazy like that.

I thought I’d try and tackle a spider. I used a template Tiffany had found as a guide, but basically just did it freehand.

Tiffany used a stencil and attempted a more detailed candle:

Twenty minutes later, I had finished my jack-o-lantern and had moved on to toasting the pumpkin seeds:

By “toasting the pumpkin seeds,” Tiffany would say I meant “destroying the kitchen.”

An hour later, Tiffany finally finished:

I think they turned out pretty decent. A lot of pumpkin guts and spilled salted water, but no missing fingers.

Living in the burbs now, we get to hand out candy on Wednesday. Our neighbor says our hood gets a lot of kids. I wonder how many teenagers will show up. As long as they don’t touch the pumpkins, we’ll all be happy.
