The Cincinnati Bengals are the 18th most-favorite team in the NFL of adults who watch professional football according to a report by HarrisInteractive.
The Bengals, who in 2005 ranked as low as 30 out of 32 teams, have jumped 12 spots in two years — most likely due to the so-called success the team has had in recent years.
The Cleveland Browns, despite a general belief that they have one of the largest fan bases in the NFL, are only the 13th most-favorite team in football. As recently as 2004, they ranked 24th.
The five most popular teams in the NFL?
1. Dallas Cowboys
2. Indianapolis Colts
3. Pittsburgh Steelers
4. Green Bay Packers
5. Chicago Bears
The least popular team?
The Jacksonville Jaguars.
Another interesting stat: Of all adults, 49% follow professional football. That percentage is amazingly similar to the percentage of the adult population who is male. I realize a large amount of women watch professional football, but they’re probably balanced out by, well, gay men who don’t.
