Movie stars, rock stars, TV stars, reality stars … and Internet stars.
It seems like everyone is out to grasp their 15 minutes of fame. And every two weeks it seems like there’s a new who’s who on YouTube, the latest being Chris Crocker of “Leave Britney Alone” fame, who recently signed a development deal.
Even I have a blog and post photos on the Internet, so I can’t be too critical of these people.
Those who broadcast their lives online all day via video feed however, well, I’ll let you make your own judgments.
Justine Ezarik (pictured right), 23, is one of the more popular lifecasters on the Web. She broadcasts on Justin.tv, a site I first found yesterday.
Apparently you can go to the site and just watch what she does all day. And you can type to her and sometimes she’ll sit and respond. She basically just sits in front of her computer a lot. Maybe it’s because I didn’t have the patience to watch long enough for anything to happen. Here’s what she’s doing right now:
Sitting in front of her computer still? If the feed’s not working, she may not be broadcasting. Or the feed that broadcasts to other sites (like this blog) is down. You can check her channel’s Web page here. She also has a blog and a Myspace page. Yes, Facebook too. If Justine bores you, Justin.tv has about over 600 other channels you can check out, including Justin, the guy who launched the site. His feed’s here. At any given time, only about 50 of the 600 channels are broadcasting live.
Leave it to a hot chick to make Justin.tv more famous on the Internet than the site’s original video feed and creator: a nerdy asian guy.
They even have a feed for the Naked Cowboy.
Baumann stopped in last night to have a few drinks and mentioned to me that he wanted to get on Big Brother. I think I found his calling.
Can you imagine a 24-hour Baumann Internet channel? He’d be an instant celebrity. I know I’d be hooked.
“What’s Baumann doing this afternoon? Oh look, he’s slapping his belly.”
Another channel that would be huge? The Van Culin channel. Hell, let’s get them both channels and then they can just rip on each other’s channels all day live on your desktop.
The Plamper channel might beat them both, however. And the Pranno bar cam channel would be an instant classic.
Justin.tv will let new lifecaster’s sign up.
That’s it, I’m going to go buy them all Web cams.
