Hayden Panettiere Turns 18 Today

Today is Hayden Panettiere’s 18th birthday according to Wikipedia. So she’s free to ogle over, being that you can now do it legally.

The “Heroes” actress has shot to stardom by A) Being attractive and B) Being a superhero — both of which pale nerds covet more than hitting level 70 in World of Warcraft.

She has appeared in other roles, albeit even younger in her years.

From 1994-1997 she had a role on soap opera “One Life to Live” followed by “Guiding Light” from 1997-2001. Besides those being roles on soap operas, those years would have covered her 6-11 birthdays so nobody that doesn’t have to register their whereabouts on familywatchdog.us would have noticed.

Ohio State Ties With Boston As 57th-Best College

The U.S. News & World Report ranks The Ohio State University as the 57th-best college in the country, tying with Boston University.

As published in “America’s Best Colleges 2008,” OSU places 32 spots behind sports rival University of Michigan, which came in at 25, nine spots behind Pennsylvania State University at 48, eight spots behind the University of Florida at 49, and five spots behind the University of Miami at 52.

OSU Placed just ahead of Rutgers.

The good news?

OSU beat out both Miami University of Ohio (67) and Ohio University (112). So the next time a RedHawk or Bobcat tries to defend their sports program by supposed academic supremacy, you can now set them straight.

Family Matters

Tiffany and I had both of our families over to our place Saturday for the first official open house. Apparently party preparation effort increases by 500% when you have to feed the guests.

For any other party I’ve thrown, all for friends my age, the most effort I’ve put in is driving to the keg store and then hauling the thing inside.

For Saturday’s event, I had to make three car trips to the grocery store just to make sure we had all the right food ingredients — returning the second time for tea bags (the kind that actually make tea) and the third time for two boxes of cream cheese.

Are You Autistic?

Researchers at the Autism Research Center at Cambridge University created a 50-question test to measure the level of autistic traits in adults.

The results rate each test taker from low autistic traits to super levels.

The site’s test is not an actual diagnosis, but its creators do suggest that if you are concerned over a high “Autism Spectrum Quotient” score, you should call a doctor.

I scored a 5, which means have a low level of autistic traits. I’m sure nobody will be surprised.

Go take the test at this Web site.

And start counting some cards already, I want the Rain Man sweet tonight.

There’s A Cricket In Our Basement

I don’t know how the little bastard got into the house. And furthermore, I don’t know how he then traveled down to our basement, but there’s a cricket in our house.

He’s been hanging out down there for the past couple days. He’s not very friendly and he likes to hide a lot.

In that sense, he’s very unlike Jiminy. This guy’s not singing “When You Wish Upon a Star” in his top hat during the twilight hours.

Whoops, Wrong Blog. Oh, Wait…

No, you’ve come to the right place. The blog is undergoing a lot of changes.

Aside from the very obvious design change, the majority of changes are under the hood — things readers won’t see, but are large improvements for me, the blog writer.

Problems I was experiencing with Internet Explorer not being able to see embedded videos from YouTube or Google Video prompted me to look into new turnkey blog software.

On my home computer, which runs Vista and the latest versions of Internet Explorer 7 and Norton Internet Security, the embedded blog videos were not displaying properly when I viewed the blog in Internet Explorer.
