Obesity And ‘The L Word’

Lesbians are twice as likely to be obese as heterosexual women according to a recent study by the American Journal of Public Health, the New York Post reported Saturday.

After reviewing a 2002 survey of over 6,000 women, researchers determined that lesbians were 2.69 times more likely to be overweight and 2.47 times more likely to be obese.

Researchers conclude that the survey results indicate that lesbians poses a better body image than heterosexual woman and rule out higher muscle density as a cause for lesbian obesity.

Draw your own conclusions, but one thing’s for sure: The Showtime series “The L Word” is an outrage.

The show, which centers on characters almost entirely lesbian, has been duping its viewers for years by using a cast of thin or otherwise fit actresses for five seasons.

Clearly the show needs to justify its actions and go a complete different direction for season six.

According to the American Obesity Association, 30.5% of American adults are obese. If we assume that percentage carries over to heterosexual women, and lesbians are twice as likely to be obese, then more than 60% of lesbians are obese. If you take into account the percentage of Americans that are just overweight (64.5 %), that means that, oh, 129% of lesbians are overweight.

C’mon Showtime, give America a show it can get behind. Or out of its way:
