For those of you who haven’t noticed, today is April 20. In other words, today is 4/20, also referred to as 420, also known as the most wonderful time of the year for pot smokers.
Around the nation, many events will take place celebrating marijuana and why the government should legalize it. More importantly to them, everyone will be high.
I’ve never witnessed incredible productivity excreted from somebody that’s stoned of his or her ass, but I digress.
The origin of 420 and how those numbers became synonymous with smoking weed cannot be explained by a police dispatch code for anything to do with marijuana, nor does the
number account for how many active chemicals are in the plant.
The true explanation comes from San Rafael High School in San Rafael, Calif., in 1971 says Steven Hager, editor of High Times magazine, as reported by YouNeed2See.com. A group of more than 10 students who called themselves the “Waldos” would meet at 4:20 at a campus statue of Louis Pasteur to smoke pot. According to one of the original members named “Waldo Steve,” the group’s individuals would call out “420 Louis!” to each other in the hallways.
Needless to say, the term 420 caught on. And now today is the official National Pot Smokers Day.
Before you get too stoned, check out this elaborate marijuana cave authorities uncovered under a house in Tennessee. Also check out this article from the Manchester Evening News which reports on a British weed farm found growing in a swimming pool.
And here’s a decent anti-marijuana commercial:
