Mencia & RoganJoe Rogan accusing other comedians of stealing material isn’t anything new. He accused Denis Leary of stealing his material from Bill Hicks years ago.

Recently, however, Rogan took shots at Carlos Mencia for ripping off material as well. Even Dane Cook has been targeted.

It all seems to have come to a head when Rogan confronted Mencia on stage in front of a live crowd. That confrontation was caught on tape, edited, packaged and plastered on Rogan’s official MySpace page. I posted the video by itself here.

The legitimacy of the video’s accusations aside, I can’t help but notice how entirely self serving Rogan made the video. What’s this JoeShow thing? Does he have a new show coming out? Wait, is this an ad?

If Rogan’s trying to be the comic’s comic by calling out others who are stealing jokes, if he’s merely trying to fight for the little guy and protect the sanctity of the comedy world, why is he doing it with all the flashy lights? Why all the hype? And what’s this JoeShow thing again?

The Mencia accusations bred a video frenzy on YouTube.

After the original video, this video response was posted defending Mencia. And this one.

Soon after, this video retort was posted attempting to categorically shred the first Mencia defense video above.

Also entering the fray a radio show host called Mencia out for using a joke on air that he said the station itself had used before.

Even Pauly Shore, who’s mother owns the comedy club where Rogan attacked Mencia in the original video, weighed in with his view.

All of the videos have points to be made. Who’s stealing from whom? Is this really an epidemic that is brand new to the comedy world? Does anyone really call Rogan a comic?

Whatever the answers, the events are interesting.

As are these videos accusing Dane Cook of stealing from Louis CK and Denis Leary of stealing from Bill Hicks.

UPDATE (March 21): Brand new video claiming Mencia steals from Bill Cosby.
